Jonathan Hampson studied Economics and French at Durham University, after which he worked for Marks and Spencer for three years, starting on their graduate trainee programme.
In 2006 he joined what was then still known as Streetcar as Sales & Marketing Manager, when it was still just a tiny start-up. Since then the company has become a major player in the dynamic sector of car sharing, becoming Zipcar in 2011 when it joined forces with the North American market leader, and then was acquired by the Avis Budget Group in 2013.
Jonathan has grown with the company, becoming General Manager of its UK operations in 2016. “Of course a lot has changed since I first joined, it has been hugely exciting to see this concept really start to really be embraced by city dwellers as a cheaper, less hassle way to access a car instead of owning one.
“Zipcar is not just about saving money for members. The levels of pollution and traffic congestion in London and other big cities is unhealthy and unsustainable, and by encouraging people to ditch their private cars we are actively helping help reduce traffic, congestion and pollution, and making cities better places to live.”
