Richard is head of finance and sustainability at Adnams plc, the award-winning brewery and distillery in Southwold famous for its eco-distribution centre, its energy efficient brewhouse and its 240,000 honey bees. Adnams describe themselves as a values-led, purpose-driven business. Their ongoing focus on sustainability is delivering long term value for shareholders by creating a resilient business that customers continue to trust.
Recent projects at Adnams have included massive carbon and cost reductions from being the first UK brewery to produce carbon and water footprints for its beers, achieving zero waste to landfill, having the lightest ale bottles in the UK and operating on 100% renewable electricity. Adnams are currently looking at aligning their activities to the Sustainable Development Goals to better understand their wider social impacts.
Richard holds a first class accounting degree from the University of Wales and subsequently qualified as a chartered management accountant. He held a series of commercial finance and controller roles at BT before joining Adnams in 2012. In addition to his current role, Richard is on the board of the National Trust’s Fit for the Future network and part of the ICAEW’s sustainability committee.
